Tips to Keep Your Heart Healthy

14.2.22

Embracing a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle is central to keeping your heart healthy. As we age, the heart can become more vulnerable, so it is essential to minimise the risks as best we can.

It is never too early to begin taking care of your heart – there are small steps you can implement today to improve your heart health in the long run.

1. Eat Healthy

Make sure you get your five-a-day. Variety is key here so branch out and enjoy a mix of different fruit and vegetables. It is also advised to eat plenty of fibre and reduce your intake of saturated fats. Where possible, reduce the salt you add to your evening meal and check nutrition labels on pre-packed food

2. Manage Stress

A great way to reduce stress is through exercise, as it stimulates the production of endorphins known to elevate your mood. Other ways to reduce stress include laughter, practicing yoga, keeping a gratitude journal, meditation and listening to music to help you relax.

3. Get Active

It may seem obvious but regular exercise and choosing to stay active can benefit your overall heart health. Committing the time to schedule in the recommended 30 minutes of exercise every day will boost your mood and energy levels, as well as help towards your future fitness goals.
