Sport Aberdeen and The ARCHIE Foundation tee off charity golf open

20.2.20

Two Granite City charities have joined forces to tee off a golf tournament, culminating in a champions final’s day, to raise vital funds for local sick children and their families throughout Aberdeen and the north-east.

Award winning charity Sport Aberdeen and The ARCHIE Foundation are working in partnership to run a six-week Open Tournament which will be held across four of the city’s most spectacular golf courses, running from Saturday 28 March until Friday 8 May 2020.

Throughout the duration of the tournament, anyone who plays a round of golf at one of Sport Aberdeen’s four golf courses; MacKenzie Championship, Hazlehead Pines, Kings Links and Balnagask; will have the chance to make an additional £5 donation to enter the ARCHIE Open, with all donations going straight to The ARCHIE Foundation.

Scores will be recorded, and the ARCHIE Open leader board published weekly in the Evening Express.

The Open final will take place on Friday 15 May when the top 72 players from the tournament will be invited to compete at the MacKenzie Championship Course to be crowned the ARCHIE Open champion.

Tony Dawson, Sport Aberdeen Chairman, said:

“Sport Aberdeen runs four of the most stunning golf courses in the area and I am thrilled that both charities are teaming up to help raise vital funds for such a deserving cause. The ARCHIE Foundation supports so many families in the north-east and I am proud that Sport Aberdeen has partnered up with them for this exciting tournament.

“Golf is a fantastic sport that people of all ages and abilities can take part in and it is my hope that everyone, no matter their golfing capability, will seize this brilliant opportunity to get out, have fun and get active whilst rallying together to raise money for charity.”

David Downie, Director of Business Services, The ARCHIE Foundation said;

“We are delighted to be partnering Sport Aberdeen for this amazing tournament. The first in a series of exciting collaborations between our two fantastic charities. We are hoping the ARCHIE Open will get people out on the courses playing this fantastic sport all whilst helping raise vital funds for local sick children and their families.”

The ARCHIE Foundation is a charity that makes the difference for local sick children when they are in hospital or require long-term medical treatment. Every year, the charity impacts the lives of around 200,000 children and their families, with all funds going towards making the experience of being in hospital as good as it can possibly be for children and young people.
