Snowsports

Located in Garthdee, our snowsports centre boasts the only dry ski slope in Aberdeen. We offer skiing and snowboarding lessons and coaching for all ages and abilities, as well as open public sessions to practice your skills and have fun with friends and family.

All our snowboarding and skiing lessons and coaching programmes are delivered by enthusiastic, qualified instructors in line with BASI and Snowsports Scotland learning pathways.

Public Sessions

At Adventure Aberdeen Snowsports we offer a range of open public sessions for everyone to practice their skills and have fun with friends and family.

Your Bookings

All slope sessions and lessons MUST be booked online in advance. There will be no access to the slopes without a pre-booked session.

To attend our open sessions you need to meet our minimum standards. If you attend regular lessons with us, you need to have passed level 4 lessons.

If you do not attend regular lessons with us our minimum standard is as follows –

  1. Control your speed
  2. Link your turns
  3. Use our uplifts

Open sessions are not available on our Little Dee slope and are only available on our Emerald, Blizzard and Great White slopes. Some sessions may be restricted to certain slopes due to other sessions taking place at the same time. For more information, please ask a member of our team

Skiing and Snowboarding Lessons

Adventure Aberdeen Snowsports is the perfect place to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time or to improve upon your skills.

All of our snowboarding and skiing lessons and coaching sessions are delivered by qualified and accredited instructors in line with the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) and Snowsport Scotland learning pathways. We are also a recognised Snowsport Scotland Training Centre.

We provide all the equipment needed and our instructors, who have an infectious enthusiasm for the sport, will help you learn in a safe and enjoyable environment.

All our coaching sessions are a 50-week continuous programme, payable by monthly direct debit with a minimum contract of one month. There is a two-week break over the Christmas period.

Cancel your lessons

Please note that cancellation must be in line with the terms and conditions of your contract which were sent to you when joining. Please do not cancel your Direct Debit with your bank until we have received confirmation that you wish to cancel and have confirmed your termination date.

Lesson Ages

Our ski lessons start from age 4 and snowboard lessons start from the age of 6.  This will be dependant on the size of your child and being big enough to fit into our child sized ski boots.

Lesson Levels

See below to choose the right class level for you.

Beginner (levels 1 and 2)

Held on our beginner slope, these snowboarding and skiing lessons are designed for complete beginners or those who have tried it a few times and will teach the basics of the sport.

Techniques covered will include:

  • Skiing – Introductory activities working towards linked snowplough turns.
  • Snowboarding – Introductory activities plus basic J-turns and C-turns.
Early Intermediate (levels 3 and 4)

Held on our main dendix and alpine slopes these lessons are designed for those who have just completed a beginner course or those who have spent up to one week learning on snow.

Techniques covered will include:

  • Skiing – Introduction to new surface, steeper terrain and lifts. Linked snowplough turns through to elementary plough parallel turns
  • Snowboarding – Introduction to new surface, steeper terrain and lifts. Linked turns on heel and toe edges.
Intermediate (levels 5 and 6)

Held on our main dendix and alpine slopes, these snowboarding and skiing lessons are designed for those who have completed the intermediate course or those who can ski but want to improve turns and technique.

Techniques covered will include:

  • Skiing – linked plough parallel turns through to elementary parallel turns
  • Snowboarding – improve turns and technique and learn basic tricks.
Club ready

Our dedicated coaching pathway is open to everyone over the age of 6 that have completed our lessons or have learnt elsewhere.

Our two hour coached sessions continue to develop fundamental skills and introduce more advanced skills that can lead to specialisation in freestyle or race.

Working towards parallel skiing and edged snowboard turns these sessions will include basic movement preparation for advanced snowsports.

Our all mountain session is for the all-rounder.

With a focus on fundamental technique, this is an ideal second session or one for anyone interested in following into the instructor pathway.

At this stage you may wish to join a club, the 3 that operate at the centre are Aberdeen Snowsports Club, Grampian Snow and Gordon Skiers 

Freestyle Development and Performance

Our dedicated freestyle sessions introduce and develop freestyle skills on our freestyle alpine slope.

With a focus on movement mechanics for jumps and boxes, spins, grabs and style all included.

Race Introduction, Development and Performance

Our dedicated race sessions introduce and develop race technique for continued technical development.

With a focus on fundamental skills, technique for skiing gates and age appropriate competition.

Avalanche Sessions

A two hour session with a coach in a relaxed atmosphere

Kit Rental

Ski & Snowboard Rental

Skip the long queues at the ski resorts with our one day snowsports kit rental service.

If you are hiring kit you can collect your equipment from 12pm the day prior to your trip. You must return your kit by 12pm the day after your trip to qualify for the one day rental.

Prices for rental equipment are as follows:

Tubing

Tubing

Dry slope tubing is a fun activity where participants slide down a slope while riding a tube! There is no training required and as long as you can sit and hold on, you will be able to go whizzing down the slope. Click below to find out more!

Suitable for people of all abilities, aged five and over. Safety helmets are provided and our handy travellator makes getting back up to the top for your next turn a piece of cake.

We have regular weekend sessions;

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Please wear appropriate clothing for Snowsports activities. Waterproofs are recommended, with long sleeved tops, long trousers, gloves and long socks for comfort.

Do I need to bring any equipment?

You can bring your own skiing or snowboarding equipment if you wish. We also have a range of equipment which is available at no extra cost – please see the Public Sessions section for more information.

Do you offer parties?

Yes! Our tubing parties are very popular, consisting of one hour of tubing followed by 30 minutes in our cosy Hobbit Hut for food and cake! To make an enquiry please email snowsports@sportaberdeen.co.uk
