Blind Cyclist Raises Funds For NESS

30.7.15

At Sport Aberdeen we always aim to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get fit and active with sport. For some this presents a more difficult challenge with disability often a barrier.

But Bruce Cruickshank of North East Sensory Services is proving to himself and his clients that disabilities need not spell the end for regular sporting activity.

Losing his sight to Type-1 Diabetes in 2010, Bruce has overcome many obstacles but is now just as mobile as he was with the help of Guide Dog Quaver and his new position with NESS as a Fundraising Assistant.

Aiming to take part in the 15th Glen Moray Sportive, a gruelling 25 mile tandem bike ride, Bruce was tasked with getting fit enough to take on the challenge.

He achieved this by walking the dog every day as well as visiting the gym and pool as often as possible. All of these present challenges to someone with next to no visibility but by setting himself a goal he was determined to come through.
