Walk Aberdeen walk leaders take part in first aid training
Walk Aberdeen, Sport Aberdeen’s walking programme, recently ran a first aid course for their walk leaders.
The training on how to cope with people who become ill whilst on a walk was delivered completely outdoors in the Don Valley between, Persley and Grandholm bridges.
Walk leaders with Walk Aberdeen are not required to hold a first aid qualification as walking is a very low risk activity, especially when delivered within the city boundaries where access to an ambulance is only a phone call away. However, some walk leaders were keen to learn how to cope with an emergency should it arise on their walk.
Brian Harrison, Sport Aberdeen’s Health Walk Coordinator, and first aid trainer, designed a session specific to the needs of walk leaders.
Brian said ‘First aid is easy, anyone can do it. It sometimes just takes a little practice and confirmation you are doing what you should to boost individuals confidence’.
